Premier Kiviet Expresses Condolences to family of the Victims of Mqanduli Murders
Eastern Cape Premier Noxolo Kiviet has conveyed deep condolences to the family of the murdered elderly woman and her three grandchildren near Mqanduli last week. It is with great sadness that once again this province is associated with these brutal killings of innocent citizens.
The provincial government empathizes with the family and words cannot even begin to express its sorrow. As the province comprehends this profound loss, it is calling everyone to mourn and pray that God will keep the family during this difficult period.
Kiviet said that government and everyone is appalled by such a barbaric act. "We can’t accept this situation, enough is enough. We have to come together to confront this evil.” She stated that there is no place in the Eastern Cape for murder or any kind of violence against women and children.
Meanwhile Public Works MEC Pemmy Majodina and members of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature joined scores of angry Mqanduli residents today and picketed outside Elliotdale Magistrate Court to protest against the bail application by the alleged perpetrators.
Kiviet also accepted the postponement of the bail application. “The law must take its course and justice must prevail. We all have to claim back our communities and commit ourselves into making everyone feel safe in the Eastern Cape .” She said.
MEC Majodina and the members of the Eastern Cape Legislature are all expected to attend the funeral in Mqanduli on Friday.
