Department meets stakeholders to prevent mushrooming of informal settlements in the province.
MEC Nombulelo Mabandla with various stakeholders including municipalities, Councillors, Traditional leaders, business organisations and housing institutions in the Province will congregate to initiate the process of developing a Provincial Act to mitigate the mushrooming and re-emergence of informal settlements. The event will be held at Osner Hotel, East London starting at 09H00am on the 22nd January 2010.
The main objective is to invite inputs of preventing mushrooming of informal settlements in the Province from all relevant stakeholders.
During the session, Housing Science Research Unit will release preliminary findings of the verification study on Informal Settlements and Backyard Shacks, Backlog, Demand and Supply within the province of the Eastern Cape. The study is commissioned by the department to ascertain the accurate demand of houses in the province.
